Seasons greetings everyone,
We, the staff and volunteers at the Cape Girardeau Habitat for Humanity, extend our upmost wishes for a joyous, safe, and peaceful holiday season. While holiday traditions may vary from country to country and coast to coast, we are all connected at this time through are love for our neighbors and our hope for a better world. As Christmas passes, we remember the times when we were pulled in so many different directions with family and work in this hectic season. We have persevered, and got to where we are now. Let us enter 2018, fresh and anew!
At Habitat for Humanity, we build. We build because we believe that everyone, everywhere, should have a healthy, affordable place to call home. More than building homes, we build communities, we build hope and we build the opportunity for families to help themselves. Help empower these families who have yet to achieve their wish of a safe and dignified home. Give the greatest gift by donating today. Your holiday gift will change a family forever!
Wishing you love, peace and joy

Habitat for Humanity- Cape Area is a non-profit Christian housing ministry. Through the homes we build, hope is restored, and lives are changed as the cycle of need is broken. Every individual deserves a decent place to live and to build a better family life.
Your support could be in any form whether it is your donation of time, money, labor, or a donation to the ReStore. It helps us to build homes, community, and hope with families in need. Even the smallest donation can become a big contribution in the building of a home.
Volunteers are always needed for office work, committee work, or in our ReStore.
We invite those who wish to sign up and reserve a date to come and join us to build. Fill out our contact form here or sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of the page! “A world where everyone has a decent place to live. Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.”
Jennifer is a remarkable woman. At an
early age, she made the decision that she did not want children.
However, life rarely unfolds as we have it planned out. In those
following years, Jennifer would watch a movie that would forever change
her life and lead her to consider adoption as an option. Today, the
lady who didn’t want children is a wonderful mother. Jennifer has six
foster children whom she is in the process of adopting. A graduate of
Southeast Missouri State University, hard-working, determined and
focused all describe Jennifer.
When Jennifer heard about
Habitat for Humanity from a cousin, she thought that this would provide
her with the perfect opportunity to provide a home for her family.
Jennifer has a steady income. She fell within Habitat’s income
guidelines and not only was she willing and able to partner with Habitat
to build up her sweat equity hours, she may well have reached those
needed hours in record time. Perhaps you had the chance to meet
Jennifer as she achieved a number of her hours volunteering at Habitat’s
Jennifer exemplifies one of Habitat’s core
beliefs, it’s not about giving a hand out, it is all about giving a hand
up. In this case, a hand up to a woman who has made an incredible
difference in the lives of six young children. Six children, who
without Jennifer would still likely be in the foster system. Six young
children who, thanks to your support, will soon call a Habitat house …
United Way of Southeast Missouri has always been one of the most supportive funded partner for Habitat for Humanity Cape Area. On September 2016, we participated on United Ways first Memorial Weekend with their LIVE UNITED event. Amazing team of at&t lend their hands on September 9 and another great team from Bank of Missouri extended their support on September 10. These amazing teams were led by one of our volunteer leader Brad Hughes, with his leadership these two teams were able to finish siding the exterior walls on all three sides of the house. All our volunteers showed such passion and enthusiasm at working on our house inspiring us to keep up with our mission. Our volunteers were all excited and not scared to step up the ladder to put the sidings on those walls.
I was glad to meet our volunteers who were just like me new to the skills of siding. We learned how to measure and cut the sidings and enjoyed our morning learning and helping on the house. Despite the fact that many of us were amateurs we were happy to see what we have accomplished in a very short period of time. Brad and his friend were such an amazing supervisors guiding us on getting the job done right.
Partners as United Ways of Southeast Missouri and companies as at&t and bank of Missouri helps us keep going on fulfilling our goals and mission to provide affordable housing to these amazing well deserving families.
We thank all of our funded partners and volunteers who have extended their time and energy to spend on our houses. Without your support we could never accomplish our goal.
When you hear about volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, the first thought that might come to mind is a hammer and nails. While our volunteers that help with the actual construction of our homes are invaluable, so are the countless volunteers that help our organization in other ways as well.
Meet Mike Baughman. Mike, a truck driver from Perryville, MO, injured his back on the job. After a great deal of therapy, he was cleared to perform light duty work prior to being able to return to the rigors of his old job. Mike drives down from Perryville 4 days a week and volunteers at Habitat for Humanity’s Cape Girardeau Restore. Here, you’ll find him opening boxes, pricing items, placing items for sale on the store’s shelves, organizing items and more. Mike Baughman has been a great asset and an invaluable volunteer.
The Habitat vision sees a world in which everyone has a decent place to live. Our mission seeks to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. We can only accomplish that mission with the help and support of caring volunteers that serve in a myriad of ways.
So, in the future, when you hear about volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, know that opportunities abound. Would you like to volunteer? Whether you pick up a hammer or a pricing gun, nails or pricing labels, a sheet of plywood or a mop, know that your willingness to serve as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity makes a very real difference!
